The State of Louisiana Joint Legislative Committee on Budget (JLCB) recently approved a one million dollar Water Sector Grant for the City of Lake Charles, at the recommendation of the Water Sector Commission (WSC).
This Phase 2 (WSP-P2) grant will be allocated to upgrades at the City’s George H. West Water Plant located on North Ryan Street. The project work will include drilling a new two million gallon per day water well and additional work to harden the facility for weather events, creating a safer and more resilient facility.
“These grant funds will add to the City’s additional capital fund allocation, allowing us to complete a series of projects that will lead to better service for our residents,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “The City has a looped water system, so when we talk about improvements at one facility, we are actually talking about improvements for the entire City. Work completed through this project will help us strengthen the capacity of this site, providing resiliency during peak demand periods. As a reminder, in a couple months, we will be cutting the ribbon on a brand new water plant. The City's water system has never been stronger or more resilient than it is today.”
