New Swimming Pool Announced for Goosport Park
On Thursday, December 5, Mayor Nic Hunter and District A City Councilman Ronnie Harvey, Jr., teamed up to announce a brand-new swimming pool at Goosport Park (1619 Cessford St.).
The pool will feature a child wading area and universal accessibility entry. Additional design features will allow for lifeguard training as needed.
“This new recreational amenity at Goosport Park will help bolster an engaging lineup of programming our Community Services Department has worked to build over the last several years,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “As the home of the Anchor Teen Center, after school programs and summer camps, this park and community center are a hub of positive activity for children and teens in the community. This new pool will help further promote healthy and active lifestyles in the community.”
“Adding a pool at Goosport Park provides access to a recreational amenity much needed in District A,” added District A City Councilman Ronnie Harvey, Jr. “Statistics have historically shown that when parents have no to low swimming skills, their children are unlikely to have this life-saving skill. By adding this public swimming pool at Goosport Park, we will open the door to expose children to this critical skill, and provide an opportunity for cool, summer fun.”
Construction is expected to get underway in the second quarter of 2025, with an expected completion date, weather permitting, in the fourth quarter of 2025. The project is being funded by a federal Community Development Block Grant.
