On Thursday, October 31, the City of Lake Charles teamed up with the United Way Southwest Louisiana to announce the LC United Resource Fair.

Through the LC United Resource Fair residents will have multiple opportunities over the course of six days to visit a one-stop-shop of resources aimed at assisting residents still recovering from natural disasters.

“Although much progress has been made over the course of four years, we acknowledge that there are still families struggling through the recovery process,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “Navigating various resources can be challenging so that is why we are teaming up with United Way to bring everyone together under one roof. It is our hope that we may bring our residents still in need of assistance one step closer to complete recovery.”

The LC United Resource Fair will be held from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm at the following locations, on the following dates:

  • ·         Tuesday, November 5 and Wednesday, November 6 at Donald Ray Stevens Community Center (1619 Cessford St.)
  • ·         Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13 at Bellard Recreation Center (2808 Hillcrest Dr.)
  • ·         Tuesday, November 19 and Wednesday, November 20 at Henry Heights Recreation Center (801 East School St.)

Denise Durel, President and CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana, added, “Our goal is to provide a comprehensive support system for our community. By collaborating with local agencies, we believe we can empower residents to access vital resources that will help them rebuild and recover more effectively. This benefits our entire community.”

Partnering agencies, who will have representatives on hand, include the City of Lake Charles, United Way Southwest Louisiana, Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, Southwest Louisiana Law Center, Catholic Charities, Calcasieu Council on Aging, Salvation Army and Families Helping Families.

There is no charge to attend, but residents are asked to call 211 to make an appointment.
