The Lake Charles Police Department is increasing its connectivity with the community through the launch of its new app and text alerting system, Lake Charles PD.

The Lake Charles PD app and alerting system is now live and replaces the Nixle text alerting system. The Lake Charles PD app is available as free download in the Google Play Store, the iPhone App Store or at www.cityoflakecharles.com/police.

With Lake Charles PD, subscribers will receive traffic and other important alerts, directly to their phone and/or email.

Residents are also able to submit non-emergency tips anonymously to the Lake Charles Police Department.  Emergency requests for service for in progress situations should still be directed through 911.

“We are excited to offer this new way to connect with the Lake Charles Police Department,” said Chief Shawn Caldwell. “The Lake Charles PD app and alerting systems offer us a new tool to connect with our residents in non-emergency situations. The ability to submit tips anonymously will be a tremendous asset to our department, but I want to reiterate that this is to only be used in non-emergency situations. Emergency requests should still be directed to 911.”

“This is a great step forward for the Lake Charles Police Department,” added Mayor Nic Hunter. “Increased connectivity between our officers and our residents makes our community a stronger, safer place for us all.”

For users without a smartphone or not wishing to download the app, alerts can still be received and non-emergency tips anonymously submitted by texting LCPD to 847411. Anonymous, non-emergency tips can also be submitted via the www.cityoflakecharles.com/police
