Severe Weather Update - Monday, January 8, 2024
Due to approaching severe weather and high winds, City Transit Service is in the process of suspending routes for the safety of Transit customers and City Transit personnel. All routes will be suspended by 2 p.m. on Monday, January 8, and are scheduled to resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 9.
Solid Waste personnel will collect any trash or garbage not collected on Monday’s normal route tomorrow, Tuesday, January 9. Residents are asked to please bring in and secure any trash receptacles that may be curbside. Residents are also asked to pick up and secure any loose items in their yards.
Public safety and other essential personnel continue to operate. Residents are asked to avoid traveling local roadways if possible as the storms pass through the area. Should travel be necessary, motorists are asked to use extreme caution. Heavy downpours could lead to temporary, localized street flooding. Motorists are asked not to travel down flooded streets should this occur.
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 8, has been cancelled. The next meeting will take place on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 8, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
Citizens are reminded that several City services, including permit applications, occupational license renewals and water bill payments, can be accessed through the City’s website, www.cityoflakecharles.com.
