Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held for Park Enhancements at Mary Belle Williams Park
On Saturday, October 21, Mayor Nic Hunter was joined by Northrop Grumman representatives and other City officials to cut the ribbon on park enhancements at Mary Belle Williams Park, located at 1600 Knapp St.
Enhancements include a brand-new pavilion and refurbished park benches.
In addition to these enhancements, the park has also received new fencing and a new sign as Hurricane Laura and Delta repairs have been completed at the park.
The pavilion was funded through the Hunter Administration’s Partners in Parks Fund at the Community Foundation, thanks to a $25,000 contribution from Northrop Grumman.
“When we launched Partners in Parks in 2018, our goal was to make infrastructure improvements and enhancements at our parks Citywide, as well as re-invigorate programming. Northrop Grumman is one of our early partners in the initiative and has been committed to enhancing Mary Belle Williams Park,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “We are appreciative of their ongoing, steadfast partnership and look forward to many more exciting projects.”
Northrop Grumman is also a sponsor of the City’s #ReTreeLC Initiative, under the Partners in Parks Initiative. In early 2022 employ volunteers planted trees and native grasses in the park.
“Lake Charles is not just where we work. It’s where our families gather, play and explore,” said Scott Pfeiffer, Northrop Grumman Vice President, Platform Sustainment and Mission Readiness. “Supporting this community is important to Northrop Grumman and we are proud to continue our STEM as well as environmental partnership with Mayor Hunter, Partners in Parks and #ReTreeLC.”
Future plans for Mary Belle Williams Park include an all new playground that features aviation-themed play equipment.
This proposed playground makeover is contingent on the passing of LC REBOUND, a tax neutral ballot proposition, on the November 18 ballot.
