Downtown at Sundown Kicks off Friday
The 21st Annual Downtown at Sundown concert series will begin on Friday, May 17 and run for four consecutive Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m. The outdoor music festival will take place in the 1000 block of Ryan Street in front of Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center and the Parish Courthouse. This year’s event is supported entirely by corporate sponsorships from the American Press, Capital One Bank, CITGO Petroleum, Stockwell Sievert Law Firm, Entergy, Lake Charles Toyota, Fuerst, Carrier & Ogden, Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino, and Erdace Companies.
The series kicks off with the Calcasieu Cajun Ramblers on May 17 with an opening performance by Brandon Broussard and Chez de Bons Temps and intermission performance by Washington Marion Drumline; Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience will headline the May 24th concert. Bluesiana RED will play on May 31 with an opening performance by Young Band Nation and intermission presentation by SETX Ballet Folklorico; and the series wraps up with The Tugboats on June 7 featuring Mickey Smith, Jr. during intermission.
“Every year, Downtown at Sundown brings thousands of residents and visitors to experience Downtown Lake Charles as a thriving urban community,” said Mayor Nic Hunter. “We have added some additional crowd entertainment and outdoor lighting this year.”
Beverage sales will benefit the Literacy Council of SWLA. The street-fair format will feature food and beverage, table top galleries, merchandise vendors, activities for kids as well as a variety of music. Lawn chairs are welcome; however, ice coolers and pets are prohibited. In case of rain, the concerts will take place inside the Lake Charles Civic Center.
