Beginning at 8 a.m. on April 22, the City of Lake Charles Recreation and Parks Department will begin accepting summer enrichment program registrations at the Purple Heart Recreation Center, 4305 Avenue H in Lake Charles. Registration is free, open to children age six to twelve, and available on a first come, first serve basis. 

Each of the seven community center-based summer enrichment programs are scheduled to begin on Mon., June 3, 2019. 

This year’s summer programs will provide math, art and reading enrichment, STEAM and STEM projects, computer training classes, nature hunts, flower planting, bug week, brain teasers, creative writing and more. 

Site locations include Bellard Community Center, 2808 Hillcrest Rd.; Columbus Circle Park Family Community Center, 3520 Grienwich Blvd.; J.D. Clifton Recreation Center, 2415 East Gieffers St.; College Oaks Community Recreation Center, 3518 Ernest St.; Henry Heights Community Recreation Center, 801 East School St.; Mike D. Lanza Community Center, 609 Sycamore St.; and Wiley B. McMillian Park Family Community Center, 343 Goos St.

Willie McCullor Landry Community Center’s registration (Drew Park) will be held at the Recreation and Parks office in City Hall, 326 Pujo St., 3rd floor on a first come first serve basis from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Cost per two week session is $115 and camp participants will receive free breakfast and lunch daily. 

Summer Enrichment Programs are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily. Drew Park Summer Camp is 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To register, please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate. This is a mandatory requirement with no exceptions. 

All City of Lake Charles summer programs will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
