City Announcements Relative to Tropical Storm Cindy
Due to Tropical Storm Cindy, the regular Lake Charles City Council meeting scheduled for tomorrow, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. is being rescheduled. A special meeting is planned for Monday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 326 Pujo St.
The following City of Lake Charles services will be suspended on Wednesday, June 21:
- The Summer Food Service Program will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, June 21. The City will monitor weather forecasts and will communicate openings based on weather conditions.
- The Recreation and Parks Department’s Summer Camps will be temporarily suspended on Wednesday, June 21. The sites will reopen based on weather conditions.
- City Transit will operate its normal bus routes on Wednesday until noon.
- City garbage and trash pickup scheduled for Thursday will be temporarily suspended. Because of expected winds and rain from Cindy, all residents are asked to bring their garbage cans off the street and place in a secure location. Garbage and trash normally picked up on Thursday will be rescheduled for Friday, June 23 unless otherwise noted. Garbage and trash normally scheduled for pick up on Friday, June 23, will be picked up on Saturday, June 24.
- City of Lake Charles offices, including City Hall, will close on Wednesday, June 21 at noon. City officials will monitor weather projections on Wednesday and will communicate through the media, social media, and the City’s website about plans for Thursday, June 22 by 3:00 p.m.
All public safety employees and public works crews will be continuously monitoring street conditions. Because of high tides and projected rainfall, street flooding could occur. If you must drive on the streets, please drive slowly to avoid creating wakes that can add to residential flooding.
Sand and bags are available at the following locations: East Ward 1 Barn (461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff), Ward 2 Barn (7085 LA 14 East, Hayes), East Ward 3 Old Barn (2320 Smith Road, Lake Charles), East Ward 3 Public Works Facility (James Sudduth Parkway, behind 5500 B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles), West Ward 4 Public Works Facility (2915 Post Oak Road, Sulphur), Ward 6 Barn (1275 Plum Street, DeQuincy), and Ward 8 Barn (1726 Parish Barn Road, Iowa).
