Yoga and Meditation Inspired by Art
Yoga and Meditation Inspired by Art
Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center will host a yoga and meditation session Thursday, February 18, from 6-8pm, admission is free. “Relaxing Yoga Flow with Time” will last forty five minutes, followed by a break and a thirty-minute meditation session, “Meditation with Memory”. The program will be led by Dr. Susan Kelso (RYT 500+), an accredited and active yoga instructor. Dr. Kelso will offer techniques and benefits of meditation for daily living, performance, relaxation, and pain management. Beginners are welcome and participants are asked to bring their own mat, rug, cushion or towel. Chairs will be provided for those who need them. Please note that to ensure a quiet and tranquil atmosphere, no entrance into the gallery will be permitted after the program has started.
The session is inspired by the paintings of Carol Brown Goldberg. Her exhibition, Recent Works, features more than 30 paintings, sculptures, and video. Most of the paintings measure seven feet high by eight feet wide. Goldberg’s technique begins with a solid color over which she adheres a generous “sprinkling” of pulverized optical grade glass. After applying some free-form squirts of paint, the artist uses a template and ruler to paint layer upon layer of geometric patterns. Her final act is to apply dots to the composition by letting paint drop off the brush. These dots proceed from each edge in orderly ranks toward the center of the work forming a rectangular shape at the heart of each composition, disclosing and framing the artist’s underlying creation. Goldberg’s artistic process is at once both meditative and meticulous. The artist states that her paintings are universes unto themselves. Recent Works will hang through April 9, 2016.
