Historic City Hall will open two New Exhibitions
Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center will host an opening reception for two new exhibitions on Friday, August 28 from 5:30-8 p.m. Both exhibitions will be on view through October 24, 2016. All ages are welcome, admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

Guild Hall: An Adventure in the Arts, Selections from the Permanent Collection celebrates the rich legacy of one of America's most influential art communities. The East End of Long Island is a unique region that has attracted many diversely talented people over the years. Established in 1931, Guild Hall Museum, located at the East End, holds some 1900 objects from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries by internationally renowned artists. The works in this exhibition will trace the progression of art movements in America from Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism to experiments by contemporary artists. An Adventure in the Arts features more than 70 works dating from 1878 to 1994 including paintings, sculpture, works on paper, prints, and mixed-media by Thomas Moran, Childe Hassam, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem and Elaine de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Jimmy Ernst, Roy Lichtenstein, Chuck Close, Joe Zucker, David Salle and more of the nation's leading artists. |

Edward Koren: The Capricious Line celebrates the career of Edward Koren, renowned cartoonist, graphic satirist, and long-standing contributor to The New Yorker. Through approximately 50 original pen and ink as well as watercolor cartoons, Koren’s “capricious line” deftly articulates the neurosis of contemporary society with a distinctive drawing style, relatable characters, and wry criticism. Koren’s satiric art addresses diverse social, cultural, and environmental issues. Straddling a world of imaginative beasts and the brutal, but often hilarious, banality of everyday life allows Koren to flourish in his role as society’s keen observer and sharp critic. Through this impressive collection of works, Koren shares the sheer fun and joy of drawing with his audiences. These innovative illustrations demonstrate the psychological, philosophical, and comical talents of Koren’s pen. |
Historic City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted.
