Pueblo Pottery Gallery Talk

Dr. Ray Miles, Dean, College of Liberal Arts at McNeese State University, will conduct a gallery talk on Thursday, April 4 from 6-8 p.m. at 1911 Historic City Hall Arts and Cultural Center, 1001 Ryan Street. His talk entitled "Art Traditions among the Pueblo Indians" will cover the many different types of artistic expression, the cultural aspects of it, and how the Pueblo peoples have managed to keep these traditions thriving.The event will be open to all ages at no charge and is being held in conjunction with "Pueblo to Pueblo: The Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery" currently on display from the collection of Union Station and The Kansas City Museum, and toured by Smith Kramer Traveling Exhibitions.

Dr. Miles graduated from McNeese with a Master in Social Studies Education, and from the University of Oklahoma with a Ph.D. in American History in 1990. He also serves as a professional historian and consultant for the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana. His work has been published in Texas A & M University Press, Chronicles of Oklahoma, American Indian Art Magazine, Whispering Wind: American Indian, Past & Present, Native America in the Twentieth Century: An Encyclopedia and American Indian Art Magazine.

While visiting Historic City Hall, don't miss "Second Life of Plants" by Rita Ford through April 6, and "50 Greatest Photographs by National Geographic" through April 13. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted. For more information, please call 491-9147.
