Basic Qualification Requirements
- Must be a Citizen of the United States
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License
Additional Qualification Requirements
- Pass a written Civil Service Examination

- Pass a background investigation
- Pass an Oral Interview Board
- Pass medical/physical examinations, including a drug screen
Salary and Benefits

Lake Charles firefighters are paid semi-monthly and can expect to receive a beginning annual salary of $33,503. In addition, firefighters will receive $600.00 per month supplemental pay or $7,200.00 annually for their first year of service. After the successful completion of one year's employment, the firefighter will receive from the state of Louisiana a $600.00 per month supplemental pay check, in lieu of the City's supplemental pay.

- Eighteen (18) days of annual vacation leave after one year's employment.
- Work duty uniforms and Firefighter Bunker Gear provided
- On the job training and will obtain a state certification upon successful completion of the Regional Firefighter Training Academy.
- The position of firefighter is a Competitive Civil Service Classified Position.
